This all-women sax quartet with drums was founded in 1988 by Amy Denio, and has released 10 CDs on labels such as the Knitting Factory, New World Records and No Man's Land Records (Berlin). Based in New York and Seattle, The Tiptons have played original compositions and arrangements of world music in jazz, blues, rock, and world music festivals in the US and Europe for 20 years.
Their 11th CD 'tiny lower case' comes out in Summer 2013 Sowiesound Records (Austria) and their own label Zipa! / Spoot Music. It was recorded in Mantova Italy during their Spring 2013 European tour, and includes the exceptional participation of Italian singer Peppe Voltarelli. They will be touring the US West Coast in August, 2013.
The Tiptons play and sing spellbinding soulful concerts, teach entertaining workshops to people of all ages and musical abilities, have composed for 3 Seattle Metro Busses, collaborated and recorded with Ne Zhdali (a Russian folk punk band), taught and conducted a workshop with a 30-voice choir in a 7th C. Benedictine Abbey in Austria, provided live music (while dancing!) with the Pat Graney Dance Company, and have produced several multimedia performances.
