Tonight's show features Janine Gastineau & Tom Weiser!
Janine Gastineau has appeared throughout the Boulder/Denver metro area since 2005 as a solo artist singing jazz, Brazilian bossa & samba, French chanson, country & blues; and in two-woman shows performing Stephen Sondheim musical theatre revues at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret. She was also a co-founder of the 3-part harmony women's trio The Whippoorwills, singing doo-wop, roots, sacred & world music in English, Hebrew and Zulu.
Tom Weiser is a hard-swinging vocalist who scats “like a seasoned horn player.” His music is deeply imbued with a deep rhythmic drive -- Tom studied African drumming and performed with drum and dance ensembles in San Francisco, New York, Paris and Brazzaville. He also spent years dancing to live swing music in New York City, and developed a deep love of the classics of the big band era, which comprises the heart of his jazz repertoire. Tom studied composition under Pulitzer prize-winner David Del Tredici, trained in improvisation with David Darling, and has had the pleasure of studying vocal improvisation with Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon, Jay Clayton, and Ysaye Barnwell. All of these influences combine in a musicality that is swinging, flexible and always fresh. As one club owner puts it: “Hot jazz scat, searing crazy melodies and straight-ahead bebop from the impresario of smolder, delight and surprise: Tom Weiser brings a style of jazz and the American Song book that is musical, hip and swings like crazy.”
